Celebrate dad this Father’s Day by getting out of the house and trying something new in the Twin Cities. Dad deserves to be spoiled this year and we have a great list of 10 things to do with dad this Father’s Day. From a baseball game at Target Field to classic cars to seeing some seriously BIG bugs, this Father’s Day will be one to remember.
[1] Minnesota Twins vs. New York Yankees
It’s a classic dad day out at the ballpark! Bring dad to Target Field for a day full of hot dogs, peanuts and mini Twins helmets full of ice cream. This Father’s Day (June 19th) the Minnesota Twins welcome the New York Yankees for a 1:10PM game. BONUS: First 10,000 males 18+ get a free pair of Twins socks — get there early. Go Twins! [2] Fishing on a Roseville Lake
There are a handful of spots to take Dad fishing on a Roseville lake this Father’s Day. Central Park offers pier fishing with lowered rail sections making it easier for children to fish and shore fishing sites around Lake Bennett. Langton Lake Park has an accessible fishing pier and you can fish along the paved path that splits the lake in half — it’s also great for canoeing; if you’re up for an extra adventure! Lake Josephine is one of Roseville’s larger lakes with shore fishing on the shoreline adjacent to the beach and a fishing pier is available, too. [3] Back to the 50’s Weekend
Every Father’s Day weekend 10,000 street rods, customs, classics, and restored vehicles are parked at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds for Back to the 50’s Weekend. June 17th-19th from 8AM-10PM browse through thousands of amazing cars, enjoy live entertainment, a craft fair and MORE. Don’t miss the Swap Meet exclusively on Sunday opening at 6AM. Tickets: $10 per day. Children 12 and under are free with paid adult.
[4] Go BOLD at New Bohemia Wurst + BierHaus
The newest restaurant to open in Roseville is New Bohemia Wurst + BierHaus. They call themselves the “New American Craft Bier Hall” because of their bar full of 36 local and international craft beers — dedicating 28 lines to only local breweries. Pairing well with their long list of beers is their menu of over 24 different all natural sausages. Stay on the more classic side of sausage with their Tommy Knocker Beer Bratwurst or Savory Italian… or be a little more adventurous with their Alligator Bayou or Jackalope (antelope + rabbit). Dad is going to love this place!
[5] Stone Arch Bridge Festival
Fun for the entire family during the entirety of Father’s Day weekend! The Stone Arch Bridge Festival is located on the Minneapolis Riverfront and features four performance stages with live entertainment, family art activities, a car show, a beer sampler on June 17th & 18th, and much more. Dad’s of all ages will love this outdoor festival.
[6] Take Dad back to the Jurassic Period
80 million years in the making, the Dinosaurs exhibit at the Minnesota Zoo brings you face-to-face with life-size roaring & moving dinosaurs. See dinosaurs like Stegosaurus, Brachiosaurus, the ever popular T. Rex and 17 more! Don’t forget to snap a selfie with you and dad in front of your favorite dinosaur. $5 with regular zoo admission [FREE admission for dads on June 19th]. [7] Relaxed Morning/Afternoon at the Farmers’ Market
The Saint Paul Farmers’ Summer Market fits into even the busiest day with its hours of 8AM-1PM on Sundays. Take dad for a unique breakfast or lunch with the freshest ingredients in town and before you leave pick up some flowers for his garden. The summer market is located in Lowertown in Saint Paul and offers a variety of items like bakery goods, vegetables, fruits, cheeses, pierogi’s, and MORE.
[8] Take Flight Over America
Mall of America brings America’s greatest landmarks to YOU on their latest attraction. Soar over America’s spectacular sights [wind & scents included] on the FlyOver America flight simulator — see some Minnesota landmarks, too. This ride is suitable for ages 4+ and costs adults, $16.95 and children 12 and under, $12.95. Take dad on a vacation tour of America without leaving the state of Minnesota! Maybe grab lunch after at the newest mall restaurant, Shake Shack.
[9] Ice Skating in June
Beat the heat of summer with indoor ice skating at the Roseville Skating Center. Enjoy public skating from 1:45PM-3:15PM on June 19th, perfect for skating after lunch or before heading to dinner. Skating is only $5.50 and skate rental is available for $4 if needed. Need a spot for lunch or dinner to take dad? Look no further than these Roseville restaurant.
[10] Big Bugs
When it comes to bugs dad’s your guy to swoop in to save the day [or at least my dad was always the bug superhero!]. At the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum’s new exhibit, Big Bugs, dad will be off bug duty with these bug sculptures made out of sustainable forest materials. See a 1,200 pound praying mantis, a dragonfly with a 17-foot wingspan, and three 10-foot high giant ants, each placed in an interesting and complimentary landscape setting throughout the grounds. The exhibit opens June 18th – September 30th.
