Minnesota is also the birth place of several NHL hockey players, such as current Minnesota Wild players, Zach Parise and Matt Cullen, Jake Guentzel (Pittsburgh Penguins), and Blake Wheeler (Winnipeg Jets). Guentzel’s dad is the assistant coach with the Minnesota Gopher Men’s Hockey team, making them a pretty popular Minnesota hockey family! And we can’t forget to mention Herb Brooks, born in Saint Paul, MN, who coached the U.S. Olympic hockey team that won the gold medal in the 1980 Lake Placid Winter Olympics. As you can see, we could go on and on about the history of the sport in Minnesota!
